Paper Punches — September 2026
My groupings at 5 yards improved throughout the month. One of my favorite guns to finish my range time with is my shotgun. I've been saving the ammo this month in preparation for something new, which will need to be broken in. This month I dug out of the closet my grandfather's plinkster and gave it a whirl using Federal 36 Grain Copper Plated HP. As has been my past experience, the plinkster performs fairly well when using Federal ammunition. 4 in 100 would jam when using Winchester .22 LR.

CMMG Dissent BR4 in 7x39mm it shot really well. I didn't love the form factor. You can tell that this is a ban-state adaptation, as it and its design feel unnatural. It was, however, fun to show, even though it wasn't cheap. I've heard that the war in Ukrane has driven up the price of 7x39mm.
Paper Punches — August 2026
The range was often on my mind in August. Probably didn't help that I was rewatching Yellowstone. For some reason, I'm a sucker for older-style paper punches, be it pump, bolt, or lever. There is just something that is intensely satisfying about performing the motion and hearing the noises that those paper punches make.

Kimber CW Custom - A single-stack 9mm 1911 handgun. My first time shooting a 1911, and it was nice. It was very accurate for me, and I liked the hammer staying cocked after the first shot. When I went to rent, I asked if they had any 9mm 1911s, and he said, “Well, hopefully they aren't broken.” I asked if that happens frequently, and he didn't really answer, as if it was something he wasn't supposed to say.

Glock 19 vs Sig Sauer P365. I was looking to try out a smaller 9mm for those times when I need to investigate a sound in the night without busting out the 12 gauge like i would if the alarm is going off. I tried out the Sig Sauer P365 in 380 Auto, and it was nice. The grip size didn't really bother me with the mag extension. It’s worth noting that the P365 stopped functioning after 28 rounds and the trigger refused to be pulled. Now I’ve had plenty of jams/feeding issues with rentals over the last year, but this was the first time I’ve seen a breakdown.
